President Cyril Ramaphosa Pays Tribute to Late Religious Leader Ashwin Trikamjee


Johannesburg: President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his condolences following the passing of Ashwin Trikamjee, the President of the South African Hindu Maha Sabha and Chairperson of the National Religious Leaders’ Forum. Trikamjee was a respected lawyer and activist who advocated for religious tolerance.



According to South African Government News Agency, the Presidency highlighted Trikamjee’s extensive service, noting his leadership roles as President of the Natal Law Society, the Association of Law Societies of South Africa, and his involvement with the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Committee. President Ramaphosa remarked on Trikamjee’s life dedicated to community service and praised his contributions to various organizations.



In his statement, President Ramaphosa expressed his deep sadness at the loss of Trikamjee, acknowledging his impact as a Black Consciousness activist and his leadership in the Durban Central component of the Natal Indian Congress. Trikamjee also held the position of Vice-President of the South African Football Association, showcasing his diverse engagements.



The Presidency’s statement emphasized Trikamjee’s spiritual dedication and his efforts in promoting tolerance and collaboration across different religious communities. His passing at the age of 80 marks the end of a significant era of service and advocacy for religious harmony in South Africa.
