Pretoria: The Presidency says President Cyril Ramaphosa has noted statements made earlier today in a media briefing by South African Police Service (SAPS) KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. The Provincial Commissioner held a media briefing earlier on Sunday at the KwaZulu-Natal SAPS headquarters where he made various allegations.
According to South African Government News Agency, President Ramaphosa emphasized that this issue is a matter of grave national security concern and is receiving the highest priority attention. He stressed the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the country’s security services and affirming the rule of law. The President called on all parties involved to exercise discipline and restraint.
The President remarked that the exchange of accusations and counter-accusations could undermine public confidence and create confusion. He expressed concern that such actions could damage the unity and focus of the police force.
The Presidency further stated that President Ramaphosa would outline the actions to be taken concerning this matter upon his return from the BRICS Leaders’ Summit, currently underway in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
