President Ramaphosa Concludes Visit to the North West

North west: President Cyril Ramaphosa has concluded a meeting of the national executive with the provincial executive council of the North West. Friday’s engagement, held under the theme ‘A Nation that Works for All,’ was part of a series of engagements between the President and provinces aimed at enhancing intergovernmental coordination and improving service delivery in line with the priorities of the 7th Administration.

According to South African Government News Agency, the meeting affirmed close cooperation in ensuring the successful delivery of critical infrastructure such as rebuilding roads, providing water infrastructure, and ensuring energy availability to power the province’s industrial ambitions. The meeting recognised the improvements achieved in the governance of the province, with the national executive pledging to work closely with the provincial government to resolve challenges currently facing municipalities.

President Ramaphosa expressed his appreciation for the developmental ambition demonstrated by the province, encouraging the exploitation of public-private sector partnerships to further development. He emphasized the duty of elected leaders to prioritize serving the people over personal interests and warned against the erosion of basic rights through poor service delivery.

In his remarks, President Ramaphosa underscored that elected officials must serve the people and not personal interests, highlighting that failure to deliver services infringes on residents’ basic rights. He stressed that no one should go without running water while municipal offices remain silent on restoration timelines.

Previous sessions between the national and provincial executives include meetings with the Executive Councils of Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Eastern Cape, and most recently, the Northern Cape. It is expected that the national executive will have met with the leadership of the remaining two provinces, Free State and Western Cape, by the end of this financial year.
