Pretoria: President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended his warm wishes to the South African Jewish community as they commence their celebration of Pesach. The festival, which is observed annually, began this year on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.
According to South African Government News Agency, President Ramaphosa conveyed his heartfelt greetings, stating, "President Ramaphosa wishes the South African Jewish community a Chag Pesach Kasher v'Sameach as they celebrate the festival of Pesach." The President emphasized the importance of the Jewish community in South Africa, highlighting their valued role within the country's diverse society.
The President also reflected on the broader significance of the Pesach holiday, which commemorates the liberation from slavery and the pursuit of freedom. "The Pesach holiday reminds us all to cherish freedom. We pray alongside you for freedom for all peoples, and for peace," President Ramaphosa remarked. He expressed his hope that the festival would be a time of strong connection to family and community, concluding with a traditional blessing, "Good yomtov to all," underscoring the unity and shared aspirations for peace and freedom.
