President Ramaphosa Hails Proteas Historic ICC Test Championship Victory


LONDON: President Cyril Ramaphosa has congratulated the Proteas on their historic victory in the International Cricket Council’s Test Championship, following a five-wicket win over Australia at Lord’s, England, on Saturday. South Africa defeated Australia on the fourth day, achieving success through a team effort at the renowned cricket venue.

According to South African Government News Agency, President Ramaphosa emphasized the significance of the victory for cricket in South Africa, noting that it has inspired a new generation of cricketers. He urged the nation to welcome the Cricket World Champions upon their return to the country this week. The President highlighted the excellent performances by the batsmen in the second innings as a key factor in the win.

Aiden Markram’s score of 136 and captain Temba Bavuma’s 66 runs were instrumental, with their partnership playing a pivotal role in the team’s success. The bowlers, led by Kagiso Rabada, maintained consistent pressure on the Australian batsmen, prevent
ing them from gaining dominance.

President Ramaphosa praised Coach Shukri Conrad, captain Bavuma, and the team for making South Africa proud. Despite starting the match as underdogs, the team’s spirit and focus on the field led them to victory.
