President Ramaphosa Meets Namibian Counterpart in Johannesburg

Johannesburg: President Cyril Ramaphosa on Friday held a bilateral meeting with President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah of the Republic of Namibia. The meeting was part of Her Excellency President Nandi-Ndaitwah's working visit to South Africa.

According to South African Government News Agency, the presidency stated that the meeting took place in Johannesburg and emphasized the deep, fraternal diplomatic and historical relations between South Africa and Namibia. These ties have been forged through their shared struggles against colonialism and apartheid.

The presidency highlighted that the relationship between the two nations is cemented by strong economic interdependence. The bilateral relationship is founded on political ties, leadership, and economic integration. Both countries share ideals on the Global South and are members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Southern African Customs Union (SACU).

It was further noted that South Africa and Namibia maintain high-level engagement through a Bi-National Commission (BNC) and have signed over 150 memoranda of understanding. These agreements cover various domains including diplomacy, defense, and trade.
