President Ramaphosa to Address Nation on Gender-Based Violence Measures

Ekurhuleni:President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation this evening regarding the government's actions to combat gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) across the country. The address is scheduled for 7 PM and will include updates on investigations into the murder of women in the City of Ekurhuleni.

According to South African Government News Agency, the country has been alarmed by the recent discovery of several women's bodies in and around Ekurhuleni in Gauteng. In response, the government's Inter-Ministerial Committee on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (IMC on GBVF) has approved a Comprehensive Emergency Strategy to expedite the justice process for the perpetrators involved.

Last week, during a keynote address at the Heritage Day celebrations in Oudtshoorn, President Ramaphosa denounced gender-based violence and femicide. He emphasized the importance of closing the gaps that divide the lives of South African citizens, stating that abuse, rape, and murder of women are not part of the country's heritage. Ramaphosa highlighted the national shame of the suffering endured by South African women and affirmed their right to walk freely and without fear.
