Ridding communities of illegal firearms remains a priority in the Western Cape

Continued efforts by Ravensmead police to eradicate the possession of illegal firearms in their community led to the arrest of two adult males for the possession of an unlicensed firearm in Dawn Court, Florida, Ravensmead Tuesday, 2022-04-05. The members were busy with crime prevention patrols when they noticed two suspects running up the stairs and they gave chase. The suspects were apprehended and searched and found in possession of a 9mm Star pistol.

Once charged the suspects will make a court appearance in the Bellville Magistrates court.

In an unrelated matter, police are warning the community against perjury, the act of making false allegations or wilfully telling mistruths under oath.

A 43-year-old woman was arrested and detained on the 2022-04-04 in Atlantis SAPS for a false rape allegation. On 2022-03-12, the accused opened a case of rape against her boyfriend at Milnerton police station. She later withdrew the case and she was referred to court where she confessed to lying about the incident. Perjury is a serious punishable offence and anyone who commits perjury will face prosecution.

The suspect will appear before the Atlantis Magistrate’s court today.
