Relentless Robber Chanties clinched the Kunene Regional Second Division Football League (KFL) title in style on Sunday, defeating Sixty Eleven 6-1 in the season finale at the Herbert Conradie Stadium in Khorixas.
However, Chanties won the KFL title two games ahead of schedule on Thursday, defeating Young Eagles by a single goal at Outjo’s Etoshapoort stadium.
The result also means that Chanties has automatically qualified for the Northwest Stream First Division promotional playoffs, where they will face teams from the Otjozondjupa, Oshana, and Omusati second division leagues.
Robber Chanties walked away with N.dollars 25 000 as champions.
The Khorixas-based club opened the weekend with a goalless draw against !Ugab at home before humiliating Sixty Eleven in a 6-1 victory, officially named champions and advancing closer to a return to top-flight football.
Chanties won the title with 54 points, six more than Okarindi Komutati, who finished second. The champions lost only two of their 22 games, winning 17 a
nd drawing three.
The weekend’s final matchups also saw the relegation of Pubs and Gariseb Orlando, who will now compete in playoffs against teams from the regional third levels.
On Saturday, history unfolded in the Kunene Region when Gariseb Orlando was humiliated by Sixty Eleven in a game that the victors won 4-3 despite only having seven players for the entire 90 minutes.
According to league administrator Bolla Nangombe, the league completed successfully, and the region is already preparing for the playoffs next season. Other results provided by Nagombe stated that Pubs only returned with one point after their tour to Opuwo, following a 2-1 loss to Okarindi Komutati and a goalless draw against Kunene Nampol, and therefore were relegated alongside Gsariseb Orlando.
Gariseb Orlando suffered further humiliation on Sunday, losing 5-2 to !Ugab. They won only one of their 22 league games, losing 17 and drawing four.
The league’s freshmen, Opuwo Rural-based Okarindi Komutati, performed impressively throughou
t the season, finishing second with 47 points after 15 wins, three draws, and five defeats. They won 2-1 against Pubs before concluding the season with a goalless draw against Khorixas Football Academy on Sunday.
On Saturday, the Green Dangers defeated Khaibasen 2-0, while Etosha United defeated the Young Eagles 6-1.
The final dance on Sunday featured 21 goals, with Etosha United winning 1-0 over Khaibasen and Green Dangers drawing 3-3 against Young Eagles.
After 22 games, Robber Chanties finished first, followed by Okarindi Komutati in second, Khaibasen in third, and !Ugab in fourth. Etosha United took fifth place, followed by Kunene Nampol (6), Khorixas FA (7), Green Dangers (8), Young Eagles (9), Sixty Eleven (10), Pubs (11) and Gariseb Orlando (12).
