RTMC Cracks Down on Bribery and Corruption Among Motorists

LIMPOPO: Twenty-two motorists are facing court appearances next year on charges of bribery and corruption following their arrests by the National Traffic Police in Limpopo. The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) announced the crackdown in a statement, detailing the allegations against the drivers.

According to South African Government News Agency, the motorists were apprehended for allegedly attempting to bribe traffic officers to overlook violations of traffic laws. Many of those arrested were reportedly driving without licenses and offered money to evade arrest for these infractions. The RTMC emphasized the seriousness of the charges, stating that the actions of these motorists undermine road safety and contribute to the risk of road accidents and fatalities.

The RTMC also highlighted the deployment of the National Traffic Police in Limpopo and other provinces as part of a broader initiative to enforce traffic laws more rigorously. This effort is aimed at curbing the factors that lead to road crashes and improving overall safety on the roads.

The public has been urged by the RTMC to report any instances of bribery and corruption. Reports can be made via a WhatsApp message to 083 2937989 or by calling (012) 999 5407. The RTMC’s commitment to transparency and public involvement is seen as a crucial step in eliminating corruption and enhancing road safety across South Africa.
