RIEBEEK WEST: Safer festive season operations in the West Coast District led to the arrest of several individuals on charges related to drug possession and illegal liquor sales on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. The police interventions marked a proactive approach to curbing crime during the holiday period.
According to South African Police Service, members of the Riebeek West SAPS acted on a tip-off regarding a person in possession of drugs traveling in a minibus taxi toward Riebeek West. The officers successfully identified and stopped the taxi, conducting a search that led to the discovery of drugs in a brown bag held by a female passenger. The confiscated items included 40 small transparent plastic packets containing cocaine and 100 mandrax tablets, resulting in the arrest of the 44-year-old suspect.
Further police action involved executing search warrants at predetermined locations in the Riebeek West area. Two 35-year-old females were apprehended after police discovered 99 transparent plastic packets of crystal meth, 97 mandrax tablets, an additional 29 packets of crystal meth, and 52.3 grams of dagga at their premises. Both individuals are facing charges of drug dealing.
In a separate operation, police arrested a 28-year-old female for selling liquor without a license, confiscating a total of 168.62 liters of alcohol from the premises.
The apprehended individuals are scheduled to appear in the Malmesbury Magistrates’ Court following the completion of their charges.
