SAPS National Commissioner Discusses Alleged Basotho Military Camps with Lesotho Police Chief

Maseru: The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Fannie Masemola, recently engaged in discussions with his Lesotho counterpart, Advocate Borotho Matsoso, regarding allegations of illegal Basotho military training camps in South Africa. The meeting took place in Maseru, Lesotho, and focused on addressing these concerns.

According to South African Government News Agency, the South African delegation included senior officials such as the Deputy National Commissioner of Policing and Co-chair of the National Joints Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS), Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, the head of Interpol in South Africa, and senior officers from SAPS crime intelligence and the Department of Home Affairs. These officials collaborated with the Lesotho Mounted Police Service delegation, led by Advocate Matsoso, which included the Deputy Commissioner of Police responsible for operations, Deputy Commissioner Likhama Moqhebi, and senior officers from the Crime Intelligence unit, specialised operations, and the detectives unit.

During the meeting, Commissioner Masemola briefed the Lesotho Police Chief on the outcomes of SAPS crime intelligence operations related to the alleged training camps. The discussions aimed to enhance cooperation and address the cross-border concerns effectively.
