Midrand: The South African Police Service (SAPS) has demonstrated its capability in handling kidnapping cases by successfully rescuing two businessmen who were hijacked and kidnapped in Gauteng. The rescue operation took place just hours after the kidnapping incident.
According to South African Government News Agency, the SAPS reported that the rescue was executed by the Anti-Kidnapping Task Team on Monday. The victims were initially hijacked by criminals in a silver/grey Hyundai i10 at a car rental company in Midrand. Subsequently, they were taken to a remote bush along the R21 and coerced into handing over their bank cards and PINs.
The criminals proceeded to make significant withdrawals from the victims’ bank accounts. In response, a multidisciplinary team, led by the SAPS Anti-Kidnapping Task Team, was promptly mobilized to rescue the victims. The two businessmen were discovered in dense bushes and successfully rescued. Additionally, their hijacked SUV Range Rover was later found in Tembisa.
SAPS has reassured the public of its expertise in rescuing kidnapping victims and encourages immediate reporting of crimes, including active kidnappings. The police also urged citizens to remain vigilant, be aware of their surroundings, and report any suspicious activities.
The SAPS commended the collaborative efforts of the National Crime Intelligence Counter and Security Team, Police Emergency Services, SAPS Flying Squad, Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, and Vision Tactical Security Company in the operation. A manhunt is currently underway for the kidnappers, who managed to evade arrest and are believed to be using the Hyundai i10 for their criminal activities.
