Northern cape: The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has officially welcomed Karabelo Mojanaga as the new Regional Executive Manager (REM) for the Northern Cape. This announcement was made by Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, Minister in the Presidency, during a media briefing following a Cabinet meeting.
According to South African Government News Agency, Mojanaga will be tasked with providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for SASSA in the Northern Cape. Her role is pivotal in ensuring the efficient and dignified delivery of social security services throughout the province. Her responsibilities encompass setting and driving the strategic direction for the region in alignment with SASSA's national priorities, managing the Social Assistance Programme, and overseeing financial planning, budgeting, and supply chain management.
Mojanaga's appointment is a testament to SASSA's dedication to capable and responsive leadership, with a focus on placing beneficiaries at the forefront of service delivery. She brings extensive experience in public service leadership to the role, having held executive positions such as Senior Manager: Management Accounting at the Northern Cape Department of Health and Chief Financial Officer at the Provincial Treasury.
Academically, Mojanaga is well-prepared, holding a B.Compt Degree from the University of South Africa and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of the Free State. She has also completed a certificate course on Africa's Political Economy through the Thabo Mbeki African Leadership Institute and is pursuing a Master's Degree in Business Administration at the University of the Free State.
Expressing her commitment to her new role, Mojanaga stated, "I am deeply honoured to be entrusted with leading SASSA in the Northern Cape Province. This role is both a responsibility and a privilege to ensure that our beneficiaries receive services that are accessible, efficient and delivered with dignity, speed and care."
Mojanaga also emphasized her eagerness to collaborate with SASSA staff, communities, and stakeholders to enhance service delivery, rebuild trust, and positively impact lives. Before her official appointment, she served as Acting REM since November 1, 2024, after her tenure as General Manager: Finance and Corporate Services at SASSA in the Northern Cape began on March 15, 2021.
During her time as Acting REM, the Northern Cape emerged as the top-performing SASSA region in the country, meeting 13 out of 14 Annual Performance Plan (APP) targets and achieving a 93% overall performance score, the highest nationwide.
