SAWS Issues Severe Weather Warnings for Multiple Regions

Pretoria:The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued warnings about isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms anticipated over the central and eastern parts of the country this week due to a surface trough dominating the interior.

According to South African Government News Agency, the forecast for Monday suggests partly cloudy conditions with temperatures ranging from cool to warm and hot in some areas. Isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers are expected to become widespread in regions including Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Eastern Cape.

SAWS has released several warnings for Monday. A Yellow Level 4 Warning has been issued for severe thunderstorms expected to bring heavy downpours, hail, and excessive lightning over the extreme south-central parts of Limpopo, the highveld and escarpment of Mpumalanga, and the western and north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal. These conditions could lead to flooding and damage to infrastructure and settlements.

Additionally, a Yellow Level 2 Warning applies to the coast and adjacent interior of KwaZulu-Natal, with severe thunderstorms anticipated to cause localised flooding and damage. A Yellow Level 1 Warning is also in place for the extreme north-eastern escarpment areas of the Eastern Cape, the eastern parts of the Free State, the southern parts of Gauteng, and the extreme south-western parts of Mpumalanga, where localised flooding and disruptions are expected.
