Pretoria: The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued an alert regarding severe thunderstorms expected to impact Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga on Thursday. These weather conditions are anticipated to bring localized flooding, small hail, and wind-related damages due to the influence of a cut-off low-pressure system advancing over the region.
According to South African Government News Agency, the SAWS has predicted rainfall amounts ranging from 15 to 20mm within an hour in certain areas. The maximum temperatures are also expected to drop as the core of the cut-off low-pressure system moves over Gauteng.
Residents are advised to prepare for potential traffic disruptions, localized flooding in densely populated areas, significant small hail accumulation, and wind damage to both formal and informal structures. The weather service emphasizes the importance of staying informed and taking necessary precautions.
The SAWS will continue to track the situation closely and provide updates as needed. Weather alerts and updates will be disseminated through various platforms, including X (@SAWeatherServic), Facebook (South African Weather Service), and other SAWS-supported social media channels.
