SAWS Warns of Severe Thunderstorms Across Parts of South Africa

Johannesburg: The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a forecast indicating partly cloudy and warm to cool conditions, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers anticipated over the central and eastern regions of South Africa starting from Thursday afternoon. The warning highlights a potential for severe thunderstorms developing, which could result in minor impacts across most areas of the Free State and Northern Cape, excluding the northern parts.

According to South African Government News Agency, SAWS further explained that the expected severe weather conditions might lead to localized damage affecting infrastructure, informal settlements, property, vehicles, and livelihoods, including livestock. Additionally, there is a risk of flooding that could disrupt roads and bridges, along with large amounts of small hail over open areas and fallen trees obstructing minor roads.

Furthermore, cloudy and cool conditions are predicted for the eastern regions on Friday and Saturday. In other areas, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy and warm, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers continuing to be a possibility over the central and eastern parts of the country.
