Augusta: The Scottish Open is now one of six tournaments whose victor will earn a coveted invitation to The Masters, following a change in qualification criteria.
According to BBC, this update means that winners of the Scottish Open, Spanish Open, Japan Open, Hong Kong Open, Australia Open, and South Africa Open will gain entry to the prestigious Augusta event, alongside The Open. This decision enhances The Open Qualifying Series, which has been in place since 2013.
The 2026 Masters, marking the 90th edition of the renowned tournament, is scheduled for April 6-12. During this event, Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy will defend his title, having completed a career grand slam. Fred Ridley, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament, expressed a shared commitment with The R&A to support the global game by acknowledging top talent across historic national open championships.
Ridley noted that the announcement reinforces the collective vision of rewarding exceptional players worldwide. He emphasized the hope that this recognition will highlight the achievements of these players and the significance of the events they will represent at both The Masters and The Open, starting next year.
