Meyerton: Police in collaboration with multiple law enforcement agencies successfully executed a search and seizure warrant on 28 March 2025 at Varing Street, Riverdale, Meyerton. This operation was conducted as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal firearm possession and related crimes.
According to South African Police Service, the operation involved units from Sedibeng Infrastructure C-Relief, Meyerton SAPS, Midvaal Peace Officers, Compol, and Elite VIP. The collaborative effort led to the arrest of a 66-year-old male on charges under the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000. The charges include two counts of possession of firearms without a licence, permit, or authorization, and two counts of possession of ammunition without a valid firearm licence.
The search resulted in the seizure of several firearms and ammunition: one pistol with an intact serial number, a magazine, and twelve 9mm rounds; another pistol with a magazine and one hundred and ten 7.65mm rounds; a 9mm magazine containing fourteen 9mm rounds; a Blow Mini 9 pistol with a magazine and three live rounds; and an unidentified revolver with six live rounds.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Meyerton Magistrate court soon for further legal proceedings. Major General Mukwevho praised the effective team effort and emphasized the commitment to enhancing community safety by removing illegal firearms from circulation.
