Ekurhuleni: The Department of Social Development (DSD) Minister Dina Pule visited the family of 38-year-old runner, Elizabeth 'Tsontso' Moselakgomo, who was murdered in Ekurhuleni last weekend. Moselakgomo is one of eight women whose bodies have been discovered in Ekurhuleni between July and September this year. She had gone on a run and was reported missing by her eight-year-old daughter.
According to South African Government News Agency, the DSD has offered to facilitate psychosocial support, trauma counselling, and other appropriate social services to assist the child and the family. Minister Pule expressed her condolences, particularly for Moselakgomo's young daughter, emphasizing the importance of providing care and support for the grieving family.
Minister Pule condemned the ongoing violence against women and children, highlighting the need for urgent societal action to address this issue. She called for a collective effort from government, communities, families, civil society, faith-based organisations, and law-enforcement agencies to build safer communities and challenge the behaviors that enable such violence.
Meanwhile, Acting Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia assured the nation that a high-level, multidisciplinary team is investigating the series of murders involving women in the area. He emphasized the expertise of the South African Police Service in handling such cases and committed to working with law enforcement agencies to ensure a thorough investigation, aiming to provide clarity and results for the affected families and communities.
