South Africa to Participate in G7 Ministerial Meeting on Development

Washington dc: The Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Maropene Ramokgopa, is leading South Africa’s delegation to the G7 Ministerial Meeting on Development. Minister Ramokgopa aims to reaffirm South Africa’s commitment to advancing collective action to achieve both domestic and global development goals. The Minister will also highlight the progress made by the Development Working Group (DWG) during South Africa’s G20 Presidency, which culminated in the G20 Ministerial Meeting on Development.

According to South African Government News Agency, the meeting is scheduled to be held in Washington DC, USA. Minister Ramokgopa previously chaired the G20 Ministerial Meeting on Development at Kruger National Park in Skukuza, Mpumalanga on July 24-25, 2025. This meeting led to the adoption of the 2025 G20 Skukuza Development Ministerial Declaration, which included calls to action on Universal Social Protection Systems, Social Protection Floors, and combatting illicit financial flows.

Additionally, the Minister delivered the Chair’s Statement on the provision and financing of Global Public Goods, proposing principles for international cooperation and suggesting the formation of an Ubuntu Commission to advance this work. The G7 Ministerial Meeting on Development occurs alongside the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group. Apart from participating in the G7 Ministerial Meeting, Minister Ramokgopa will engage in bilateral and strategic discussions.

The Group of Seven includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In June, President Cyril Ramaphosa described the G7 as a strategic partner in South Africa’s initiatives to promote climate resilience, ensure a just energy transition, and secure value-added investment in its mineral resources.
