South African Tourism Monitors Impact of Middle East Flight Disruptions on International Travel

Johannesburg: South African Tourism is closely monitoring the global flight disruptions linked to the evolving situation in the Middle East and associated airspace closures, which are affecting international travel schedules.

According to South African Government News Agency, South African Tourism has acknowledged the confirmed global flight disruptions and cancellations due to the situation in the Middle East. The organization is working with aviation authorities, airports, airlines, and tourism partners to stay informed of any implications for travelers to and from South Africa.

South African Tourism, the marketing arm of the South African government, has advised travelers to check with their airlines, travel agents, or relevant airports for the latest flight information before making travel arrangements. The agency also recommended that affected travelers engage their booking agents or airlines for rebooking and onward travel assistance, emphasizing that the safety and well-being of visitors remain a top priority. South Africa appreciates every visitor who chooses to visit the country.

Dr. Shamilla Chettiar, Acting Chief Executive Officer of South African Tourism, expressed confidence that the tourism industry would support affected travelers during this period of disruption, reflecting the spirit of ubuntu and reinforcing South Africa's reputation as a welcoming and responsive tourism partner.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for intensified diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and allow space for meaningful negotiations. Additionally, Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) confirmed that the closure of the United Arab Emirates airspace is impacting flights operated by Emirates and Qatar Airways.

The current flight disruptions include eight cancellations at O.R. Tambo International, with seven outbound and one inbound, four outbound cancellations at Cape Town International, and two outbound cancellations at King Shaka International.
