Pretoria: The Presidency has issued a statement addressing the media reports concerning the costs of the upcoming National Dialogue, specifically the inaugural National Convention, scheduled for August 15-16, 2025. The Presidency emphasized that all budgetary procedures for the National Convention are in line with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
According to African Press Organization, the Inter-Ministerial Committee, led by Deputy President Paul Mashatile and comprising relevant government departments, is actively coordinating the government's contribution to the National Dialogue. The committee is focused on mobilizing resources and managing costs for the convention. The Presidency assured that all procurement and management of public funds would comply with the PFMA and applicable Treasury Regulations, with transparency ensured through standard public finance mechanisms.
Additionally, the Presidency disclosed that donations have been secured for the National Dialogue's digital platform, and some essential goods and services, including the venue, public viewing screens, and transportation, are being provided free of charge. This approach aims to minimize the financial burden on the national budget.
The Presidency reaffirmed its dedication to the success of the first National Convention, which is intended to initiate a citizen-led and inclusive National Dialogue. The overall budget for the National Dialogue will be finalized once the structure and form of community dialogues are determined by the Convention. The budget will rely on in-kind contributions, donations, and other mobilized resources.
