Suspect arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and bribery

GAUTENG – A man was arrested yesterday, at Tembisa for possession of suspected stolen property and bribery.

The police followed up on intelligence information about an alleged scrapyard that strips stolen vehicles. Upon arrival at the said premises, three tempered engines were found and a break booster was also linked to a 2020 case in Tembisa.

The man found at the scrapyard tried to bribe the police with R10 000-00 cash. He was arrested and is expected to appear before court soon on charges of possession of stolen property and bribery.

On a separate incident, Johannesburg K9 members arrested five men, seized a firearm with ammunition and recovered an alleged hijacked vehicle.

The members received information about an alleged hijacked Venture vehicle in Tembisa. The members promptly responded and corned the alleged vehicle at N1 South towards Midrand. Another BMW vehicle tried to derail police from stopping the hijacked Venture. Warning shots were fired and all four occupants in the BMW together with the driver of the Venture were arrested.

The Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng Lieutenant General Elias Mawela commended the members for their swift response.
