Centane: A suspect, aged 39, was fatally shot during a shootout with police at Macibe Location outside Centane on Friday, 12 September 2025. The incident occurred as police were conducting routine duties and attempted to stop and search a vehicle in town.
According to South African Police Service, the driver of the Toyota bakkie ignored the police's request to stop and sped off, prompting a pursuit. The chase led to Macibe Location, where the suspect halted the vehicle and opened fire on the police. The officers returned fire, resulting in the suspect's death.
Further investigation led to the recovery of a 9mm pistol and a magazine with live ammunition from the scene. An inquest and attempted murder docket have been opened and will be taken over by IPID for further investigation.
