DURBAN – A 23-year-old suspect is appearing at the Pinetown Magistrates Court today for murder. He was arrested with the assistance of members of community on 26 May 2020.
On 26 May 2020 at 18:00, a 28-year-old male was taken from Mamdekazi Township to Zwelibomvu after he was accused of stealing household items. It is alleged that the suspect boarded a taxi with the victim, paid his fare and on arrival at Zwelibomvu, he allegedly bought petrol and set the victim alight.
Police were alerted about the fire near the traditional leader’s house and proceeded to the area. The victim was found with severe burn wounds and was taken to hospital for medical attention where he later succumbed to his injuries. The community members gathered and embarked on a search for the suspect who had allegedly fled his house. He was found and arrested. He was charged for murder and was taken to KwaNdengezi police station where he was detained.
