Midrand:A man suspected of murdering 23-year-old Boitumelo Gift Mashita in Thembisa has been discovered dead in his car in Midrand.
According to South African Government News Agency, the South African Police Service (SAPS) identified the man, Mashita's estranged husband, as a person of interest in her murder. The SAPS Tembisa Tracking Team had been actively tracing him.
The Midrand Police notified the team after locating his vehicle on Monday within their jurisdiction, with his body inside. Authorities believe that the man may have ingested an unknown substance, as no foul play is suspected at this time. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Mashita was reportedly on her way to work when she was fatally shot during an alleged robbery, and her belongings were stolen. Initial investigations have not connected her murder with other recent cases involving the discovery of women's bodies in Ekurhuleni.
