Suspect to Appear in Mahwelereng Court for Alleged Rape of 4-Year-Old Niece


Mahwelereng: A 36-year-old suspect is set to appear before Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 7 April 2025, after he was arrested for allegedly raping his 4-year-old niece. The incident occurred at their home in Malepetleke village on Friday, 4 April 2025 at approximately 17h40.

According to South African Police Service, the victim’s mother reported that she left her child at home with the suspect while she visited a nearby general dealer. Upon her return, she found her child crying in the suspect’s bedroom and immediately suspected foul play. The child was rushed to a nearby medical facility, where the rape was confirmed.

The Mahwelereng Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit opened a rape case, and the suspect was promptly arrested. The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the ongoing attacks on minors in the province, emphasising that children should be safe in their homes. She commended the mother for her swift action in ensuring the perpetrator
‘s arrest, regardless of their relationship.
