Suspects Due in Court for Illegal Firearm and Ammunition Possession

Worcester: An intelligence-driven operation by members of Worcester SAPS and the Boland K9 Unit led to the arrest of an adult male when he was caught with an unlicensed firearm with ammunition in his possession on Friday, 03 January 2025. The operation was prompted by a tip-off about a minibus taxi traveling from Cape Town, reportedly carrying an armed occupant. Upon stopping the taxi on Rainier Street, one male attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. A search revealed a 9mm pistol with seven rounds of ammunition, resulting in his arrest for illegal possession.

According to South African Police Service, in a separate operation, members of Manenberg SAPS and Law Enforcement arrested a 22-year-old male during a stop-and-search initiative in the Manenberg area. The individual was found with 25 rounds of ammunition and is now facing charges for illegal possession.

Both suspects are scheduled to appear in the Worcester and Athlone Magistrates’ courts on Monday for their respective charges.
