Suspects Face Charges Related to Firearms Control Act Following Arrests in Western Cape


Western Cape: Continued interventions to rid the streets of the Western Cape of firearms in our communities yielded success when police members arrested suspects for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition on Saturday night, 04 January 2025.



According to South African Police Service, members of the Anti-Gang Unit reacted to information about firearms that would be delivered in the Delft area. The members conducted foot patrols and vehicle checkpoints and stopped a silver Ford Fiesta. Upon searching the vehicle, the members found an AK47 assault rifle and 120 x 7.62 rounds of ammunition. A 35-year-old man was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He will appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ court once he has been charged.



In an unrelated matter, police members deployed in the Philippi East area arrested an adult male during stop and search operations. The members searched the male and found him in possession of a .45 calibre pistol with ammunition. The suspect was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ court once he has been charged.
