Thornhill: Excellent team work and swift reaction between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and private security companies led to the arrest of four (04) suspects aged between 23 and 39, in Thornhill within an hour, after three businesses robberies were reported in three policing precincts in the Kouga region on 26 June 2025.
According to South African Police Service, the blue Hyundai Getz that the suspects were traveling in was confiscated, together with several items that were found inside the vehicle. The three men were arrested and detained on charges of possession of suspected stolen property with additional three counts of business robbery.
It is alleged that at least four armed suspects were traveling in a blue Hyundai Getz and targeted spaza shops between Humansdorp, Hankey and Jeffreys Bay. A combat team comprising of SAPS members and personnel from private security companies was activated. The suspects’ vehicle was stopped after the Van Stadens Bridge, where the N2 meets the R102 towards Kariega.
The four suspects were subsequently arrested and they are due to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 30 June 2025 on the said charges.
The Acting Sarah Baartman District Commissioner, Brigadier Asogran Naidoo commended the team for the speedy arrests. “This arrest is attributed to excellent communication between the operational teams,” concluded Brig Naidoo.
