DURBAN Quick response by Verulam police led to the arrest of four teenagers for attempted carjacking. On Friday, 07 February 2020 at 19:10, a man was seated in his vehicle at a parking lot on Wick Street in Verulam when he noticed five unknown individuals approaching his vehicle. He became suspicious and decided to leave the parking lot, however the suspects blocked his path of travel. They demanded his vehicle at gunpoint and attempted to force the doors open.

He managed to drive out of the parking lot at a high speed whilst suspects fled the scene on foot. The driver spotted a police vehicle patrolling and informed them of what had occurred. Police immediately responded and the victim was able to positively identify four suspects. The four suspects, aged between 14 and 17 were placed under arrest and will appear at the Verulam Magistrates Court today after they were charged for attempted carjacking.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the police officers from Verulam for responding swiftly and apprehending the suspects.
