Third Suspect Arrested in Connection with Reiger Park Killings

Pretoria: A 27-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrates' Court today in connection with the brutal killing of two police officers and two civilians in Reiger Park, Ekurhuleni, earlier this month.

According to South African Government News Agency, the suspect was arrested on Wednesday by the Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Germiston. The arrest followed an intelligence-driven operation that traced him to Ekurhuleni. This recent apprehension brings the total number of suspects identified and charged in connection with the murders to three.

The suspect is facing charges similar to those of his co-accused. Acting National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Lieutenant General Sphesihle Nkosi, praised the team for its swift and methodical response that led to the suspect's arrest. Nkosi emphasized the Hawks' commitment to investigating and apprehending those responsible for taking innocent lives, particularly targeting law enforcement officers.

Earlier, the Acting Minister of Police, Firoz Cachalia, praised the multidisciplinary team for their efforts following the arrest of a second suspect linked to the tragic shooting that occurred on 7 August 2026.
