JOHANNESBURG, One of South Africa’s largest food companies, Tiger Brands, said on Wednesday its chief executive Lawrence MacDougall would retire on January 31, having reached the company’s mandatory age of 63.

In a statement Tiger Brands — whose food brands include Koo, Fattis and Monis, Jungle Oats, Enterprise, All Gold, Purity, Oros, Ingrams, Doom and Tastic Rice — said MacDougall, who has been at the helm of the company since 2016, would leave on March 31 to ensure a smooth handover.

Current chief financial officer Noel Doyle had been appointed to the CEO role, effective from February 1, it added.

“After a rigorous and extensive search process, the board and I are pleased to have appointed someone of Noel’s calibre, experience and ability to fill the CEO position,” Tiger Brands chairman Dr Khotso Mokhele said.

In addition to its operations in South Africa, Tiger Brands also has direct and indirect interests in international food businesses in Chile, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Nigeria, Kenya and Cameroon.
