OSHAKATI: The seventh edition of the Top Score Oshiwana 7-A-side tournament was officially launched at Oshakati on Tuesday.
The tournament will be held from 08-11 August 2024, at the Embadu Stadium in the Uukwangula settlement.
The tournament attracted a total of 89 teams from northern Namibia, of which 71 are football teams. The remaining teams registered from netball and volleyball.
Top Score Brand Manager Diego Talaya said that this year they have invested a total amount of N.dollars 150 000 in the hosting of the tournament.
‘Our goal with Oshiwana is to unite the community, not only through a shared pap meal at home, but also through the sports we love,’ he said.
He added that the players and officials are the heart of the tournament, and their dedication, hard work, and sportsmanship are inspiring.
‘Without them, there is no tournament,’ Talaya said.
This year, the overall football winner will walk away with N.dollars 10 000, a floating trophy and gold medals. The team in second place will receive
N.dollars 8 000 and silver medals and the team in third place, N.dollars 5 000.
Meanwhile in the netball and volleyball categories, the winners will walk away with N.dollars 7 000, a floating trophy and gold medals, the second-place winners will get N.dollars 5 000 and silver medals and the third-placed team will receive N.dollars 3 000 and bronze medals.
During the launch a moment of silence was observed by sport lovers honouring the late football legend Fillemon ‘Kaskas’ Angula, who died on Monday at his homestead near Ondangwa.
