Tourism Minister Urges Travelers to Explore South Africa During Easter Weekend

Cape Town: With the Easter long weekend fast approaching, Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille has called on local and international travelers alike to explore the country’s breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and vibrant communities. De Lille launched the Easter campaign with an activation at Twin Venture, which is based at the Atlantis Dunes in Cape Town, specializing in quad biking and sandboarding experiences. The activation was aimed at showcasing the variety of experiences for visitors across South Africa, especially in smaller towns.

According to South African Government News Agency, De Lille emphasized the importance of both domestic and international travel in sustaining and growing the tourism sector during the event, which was attended by tourism business owners, industry associations, media, and content creators. Domestic tourism in South Africa continues to perform well, with travelers increasingly looking for affordable and unique experiences. Recent insights from the 2024 Sho’t Left Travel Week campaign highlighted key trends shaping local travel, including the growing demand for budget-friendly accommodation and experiences, off-the-beaten-path adventures, and personalized travel options.

International tourism is also on the rise, with nearly 1.8 million international visitors welcomed in the first two months of 2025, marking a 4.7% increase compared to the same period last year. De Lille noted that international travelers are drawn to South Africa for its diverse cultures, breathtaking landscapes, and warm hospitality.

To further promote tourism, South African Tourism recently launched its new global brand campaign: ‘South Africa Awaits – Come Find Your Joy!’ This campaign encourages travelers to rediscover South Africa with the wonder and excitement of a first-time visitor. De Lille urged travelers to take advantage of the upcoming long weekends to explore, experience, and support local businesses. ‘Take the trip. Book the stay. Discover the dorpie. Dance at the festival. Visit the market. Eat the magwinya. Support local. Make the memory. Take that Sho’t Left! Our country is calling. South Africa Awaits – Come Find Your Joy!’ the Minister said.
