Tshwane Implements Water Management Strategies Amid Ongoing Challenges

Tshwane:The City of Tshwane has intensified its efforts to stabilize water supply and address quality issues across affected communities. Measures include targeted overnight water restrictions, increased tanker distribution in Ekangala, and ongoing monitoring of water quality in Hammanskraal and Bronkhorstspruit.

According to South African Government News Agency, the city has established a daily evening Water Management Committee to manage the multiple water-related challenges. These include a water contamination crisis in Bronkhorstspruit, quality concerns in Hammanskraal, infrastructure failures, and supply restrictions in other areas of Tshwane.

Executive Mayor Nasiphi Moya highlighted the city's partnership with Rand Water to stabilize supply in critically affected areas like Garsfontein and Klapperkop, where reservoir levels are low. Production at the Roodeplaat Water Treatment Plant has resumed after electrical repairs, aiding supply restoration.

Moya explained that targeted overnight restrictions are being applied to 14 reservoirs to support recovery. She acknowledged the temporary inconvenience but emphasized the necessity for broader network recovery.

In Bronkhorstspruit, Rand Water leads the rehabilitation of water treatment works while the city maintains alternative water provision. Distribution arrangements are being reorganized to improve access, with nine tankers scheduled for Ekangala.

The city has completed cleaning emergency water storage tanks at clinics, awaiting quality testing before use. Oversight of alternative water provision has been strengthened to ensure safety and compliance.

In Pretoria CBD, the contamination issue at Findlay Reservoir has been resolved, and the 'boil water' advisory was lifted. However, challenges remain in Hammanskraal, with ongoing microbiological concerns and water advisories still in place.

Moya urged residents in affected areas to continue using authorized alternative supplies until safety is confirmed.
