WINDHOEK: Two men were arrested after they were allegedly found in possession of a pangolin skin at Outapi on Friday.
The Namibian Police Force in a statement said the 28-year-old Namibian man and 32-year-old Angolan national were arrested around 16h32 in an undercover operation after they allegedly tried to sell the pangolin skin to undercover police officers.
Charges include dealing in controlled wildlife products without a permit, possession of proceeds of unlawful activities, and failure of the Angolan national to present himself to immigration control officials upon entering Namibia.
The value of the pangolin skin is yet to be determined, but according to the Environmental Information Service Namibia one pangolin skin is estimated to be worth N.dollars 50 000 on the black market.
Police investigations continue.
