POLOKWANE – Two suspects who were allegedly forming part of the group who set a woman and her house alight at Majosi village, Mopani District have been arrested.
The suspects allegedly set alight a 43-year-old woman and her house during a mob attack incident on Wednesday, 16 October 2024 at about 15:00 in Majosi village, Khawulani Section under Hlanganani precinct.
The attackers who were said to be five males and one female arrived at the victim’s house allegedly looking for her husband.
The assailants after learning that the husband was not around set the house and the woman alight then fled the scene.
The victim was later rushed to hospital for medical treatment after she sustained burnt wounds
Following the incident, on Saturday 19 October 2024, Hlanganani Police, Vala Umgodi Task Team together with Mopani Tracking team, Giyani, Thohoyandou and Makhado Public Order Policing (POPS) commenced with operations resulting in their apprehension.
A 32-year-old male suspect believed to be a ringleader of the
group was nabbed while at his residence in Majosi village at about 04:00 and his 31 year-old accomplice was arrested at Masiya village at 10:00.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded the multi-disciplinary teams’ concerted effort which paid off. She further urged the members to track and trace the outstanding suspects.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Tiyani Magistrate court on Monday 21 October 2024 facing a charge of attempted murder and arson.
Police investigations are continuing.
