Two Suspects to Appear in Court for IFP MP Khethamabala Sithole’s Murder


Palm Ridge: Two suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Member of Parliament, Khethamabala Sithole, are expected to appear before the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court today. This development comes as a significant step in the investigation into the tragic incident.



According to South African Government News Agency, a task team established following the murder made a breakthrough in their investigation. The South African Police Service (SAPS) announced on Thursday that two suspects have been arrested and charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder. The incident occurred at the Buyafuthi hostel in Katlehong on 31 May 2025, at approximately 5:30 pm.



It was reported that unknown assailants opened fire on a group of people who had gathered for a meeting. Sithole was declared dead at the scene, while two others were taken to the hospital with gunshot injuries. Of the injured, one person was treated and discharged, while the other remains hospitalized.



On 2 June 2025, the task team brought in three individuals for questioning. Two of these individuals, aged 30 and 32, were linked to the incident and subsequently arrested. The third person was released after questioning.



Khethamabala Sithole held the position of Deputy Chief Whip of the IFP. The suspects are scheduled to appear before the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court today, 5 June 2025, as confirmed by the police.
