The Otjozondjupa State of the Region Address (SORA) delivered on Friday at Otjiwarongo, largely contained highlights of key infrastructural development completed in the rural and urban areas of the region’s seven constituencies.
Governor James Uerikua delivered the SORA at a special council meeting of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council in Otjiwarongo attended by constituency councillors of Tsumkwe, Grootfontein, Otavi, Okakarara, Omatako, Okahandja and Otjiwarongo.
Uerikua said the government’s capital projects which include the construction and renovations of several police stations and accommodation facilities for police officers in the region are highly commendable.
‘Renovations on the Mangetti Dune Health Centre, Gam clinic, and a nurses’ home at Ovitoto clinic are also recognised,’ he said.
He added that the government’s drought relief programme benefited nearly 16 000 families in the rural areas and over 10 300 vulnerable people who reside in Informal settlements of the various towns.
Uerikua expres
sed satisfaction with the directorate of education for establishing two new schools at Otjiwarongo, as well as new 42 classrooms under construction at Okahandja, Osire, Otavi, and Otjiwarongo.
The Governor said the Grootfontein Municipality constructed 65 social houses to accommodate residents’ relocation from the single quarters at an amount over N.dollars 4 million.
Uerikua further stated that the extra boreholes that NamWater drilled at Otjiwarongo, Kalkfeld, Kombat, Berg Aukas, Otjituuo, Coblenz, Rooidag Gate, and Tsumkwe areas were a necessary government programme that should continue to other areas facing water scarcity.
The national road projects aimed at upgrading gravel roads to bitumen standards, and the re-graveling of several others in the region also impressed Uerikua.
The event was attended by several government officials, community members, and traditional leaders.
