On 30 May 2018, Umlazi Regional Court convicted and sentenced Luvuyo Lukashe (29) to life imprisonment for raping a six-year-old victim. The accused was convicted after the court heard how he raped the victim four years ago.
On 25 March 2014, the victim was playing at Umlazi area when she was approached by the accused. She was taken to the accused’s house where she was raped. The accused threatened the victim not to tell anyone about the incident. When the victim arrived home, her mother noticed a strange behavior and the victim reported the matter to her mother. A case of rape was opened at Umlazi police station for further investigation. Umlazi FCS took over investigation and two days later the accused was arrested and charged accordingly.
The accused made several court appearance until he was sentenced.
