Rustenburg: A disruptive Vala Umgodi operation conducted between Tuesday, 18 and Wednesday, 19 March 2025, culminated in the apprehension of 11 suspected undocumented foreign nationals.
According to South African Police Service, of the 11 arrests, nine were effected in Ramochana near Boitekong and two in Tlhatlaganyane village in the policing area of Sun City. Meanwhile, a 36-year-old man was fined R1500.00 for contravening section 38(1) of the Immigration Act, 2002 (employing undocumented foreign national).
The suspects comprised of one Lesotho, five Malawi, two Zimbabwe, and three Mozambique foreign nationals.
The cases against the two suspects who appeared in the Mogwase Magistrates’ Court were postponed until Thursday, 27 March 2025.
In Rustenburg, the accused were remanded in custody and will reappear on different dates between Tuesday, 25 March and Tuesday, 08 April 2025.
In effecting the arrests, the team confiscated two water pumps, a fuel pump, and a connector hose with a filter.
The operations are ongoing to bring perpetrators to book and curb illegal economic activities.
