East London: Three suspects linked to taxi violence-related murders in East London have been arrested by a special task team assigned to prevent, combat, and investigate serious and violent crime in the Eastern Cape.
According to South African Police Service, the murders are believed to have taken place between November 2023 and August 2024, during which two taxi owners, a taxi driver, and a member of a taxi association were gunned down. Two of the suspects were apprehended at Mall of Africa in Midrand, Johannesburg, on Friday, 08 November 2024, while another was arrested in East London on Saturday, 09 November 2024. Four additional suspects seen in the video have been taken in for questioning by SAPS.
Police have seized four pistols and an AK47 from the suspects. These firearms have been taken for ballistic testing to determine their connection to the murders and any other serious and violent crimes. The matter is still under investigation, and police will not comment further.
