CAMBRIDGE – The BCM District Community Safety in conjunction with the local CPF, supported by various stakeholders like Famsa, Nicro, Masimanyane, Thuthuzela and government departments including Correctional Services, Basic Education and Home Affairs joined hands at the Cambridge town hall yesterday in an effort to make the community aware that the fight against gender-based violence and substance abuse will never be abandoned.
FAMSA emphasized that their role is to assist parents in dealing with their children of this current generation and encourage good relationship between the father, mother and child to avoid the child getting into criminal activities. Speaking at event, the BCM Ward 4 Councillor Lemarc Stewart welcomed the initiative as according to him is an opportunity to allow the community to voice their concerns and then get the necessary information.
Addressing the gathering, Cambridge Station Commander, Brigadier Pumla Mdlankomo highlighted the issue of rape especially between lovers and also pointed out that alcohol abuse is always the main contributor. She bemoaned the fact that today’s parents have forgotten their roles in guiding and disciplining their children as opposed to the upbringing they experienced in their time. “Let’s ask ourselves as parents as to where did we lose it, makhe sizilungise” she concluded.
