Western Cape Woman Nabbed for Drug Possession


Cape Town: Police in Cape Town have arrested a 46-year-old woman for the possession of drugs with an estimated street value of R1 million. Members attached to the Khayelitsha South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Prevention Unit apprehended the suspect on Friday, who was found with a large amount of mandrax.



According to South African Government News Agency, the arrest occurred during a stop and search operation when officers received a tip-off about a premises in T-Block, Sector 6, Site B, Khayelitsha, allegedly used as a liquor storage facility. Acting on the information, police discovered a woman on the premises carrying a big green bag containing 10 packets of mandrax tablets and four smaller packets also filled with mandrax tablets.



The police reported that each of the 10 packets contained 1,000 units of mandrax tablets, while the four small packets held 100 mandrax tablets, collectively amounting to an estimated street value of R1 million. The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Monday to face charges of drug possession.



Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General (Adv) Thembisile Patekile, praised the community members who provided the crucial information leading to the drug recovery.
