Marydale: The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, confirmed and welcomed the double life imprisonment handed down to Selby George (35) for the brutal rape and murder of 21-year-old Thobeka Bosman in Marydale.
According to South African Police Service, the victim's half-naked body was discovered on 7 October 2018 at approximately 08:00, under a bridge on Snyman Street, Marydale. She had been raped and strangled. The accused was arrested shortly thereafter and remained in custody until his sentencing in the Kimberley High Court on 01 August 2025.
Lieutenant General Otola praised Detective Sergeant Lewellyn Smit of the Marydale Detectives for his meticulous investigation and commended the collaborative efforts between the South African Police Service and the National Prosecuting Authority, which resulted in this landmark double life sentence for a Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) conviction - a significant development as the country marks Women's Month.
"Let us continue to unite in the fight against the scourge of GBVF," said Lieutenant General Otola.
