Taxi drivers assist police in apprehending hijacking suspect

The Police in Johannesburg have arrested a 26-year-old men for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.

It is alleged that two suspects hijacked a 38-year-old female at gunpoint at along Ellof Extension. They jumped into her car and drove off with her. They dropped her off at Faraday Taxi rank where the victim screamed for help and the Taxi drivers came to her rescue. They apprehended one suspect and the vehicle was recovered.

The suspect is expected to appear before Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 25 October 2021.

Johannesburg Central Station Commander Brigadier Perumal commended good working relationship between between the police and the Taxi drivers.

Over 700 people arrested during Operation O Kae Molao which was joined by the Minister of Police

The weekly conducted Operation O Kae Molao which is integrated with different law enforcement agencies such as SAPS, Traffic Department, Metro Police Department, Immigration from Home Affairs Department, Tracker, Fidelity, and Community Police Forum and other stakeholders continued to yield positive results as police stamped the authority of the State.

The Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele together with Premier of Gauteng, David Makhura and MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko rolled up their sleeves and joined Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela at the operation which was conducted in Tshwane District.

During the operation, the Minister, Premier and MEC assisted in stopping and searching vehicles at the roadblock and they also interacted with motorists.

The operation saw over 700 people being arrested throughout the province for various crimes such as theft of motor vehicle, possession of illegal firearms, possession car breaking implements, drunk and driving, murder, rape including undocumented persons.

The Provincial Commissioner, appreciated the stakeholders who agreed to join forces with Gauteng SAPS in ensuring the safety and security of the people of Gauteng. The public was also urged to continue adhering to the lock down level one regulations in order to minimise the spread of COVID-19 virus.

Police launch manhunt for murder suspects in Katkop

The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Zithulele Dladla has expressed shock and dismay at the brutal killing of five people at Zwelitsha Locality, Saturday evening 23rd October 2021 in Katkop. He condemned the killings and described them as “heartless and insensitive.”

According to the information, on Friday, 22 October 2021, the family had a traditional wedding engagement ceremony for one of the deceased. The report further suggests that the family gathered again on Saturday to wrap up and conclude the ceremony.

It is alleged that whilst the five deceased men aged between 30 and 50 were sitting in one of the rondavels in the homestead, unidentified male suspects appeared and started shooting and killing all of them at the scene. They thereafter disappeared without trace. The number of the suspects is also unknown.

The motive for the shooting and killings is not known at this stage, however the police have registered five murder cases for investigation. No arrest has been made at this stage. Major General Dladla has ordered the establishment of a special task team of capable investigators to trace, track and arrest the culprits. A 72 hour mobilization plan has also been activated in order to rally all the necessary resources for a possible speedy arrest of the suspects.

Murder suspects sought in seperate incidents

Police in Nelson Mandela Bay are searching for murder suspects in two separate incidents which took place over the weekend in Kwadwesi and Algoa Park respectively.

In the first incident, it is alleged that on Friday evening, 22 October 2021 at about 19:20, two brothers and the DJ of a tavern were standing in a container waiting for the owner to return from the toilet. An unknown male approached and started shooting at the trio. One person managed to run away while the other two males were fatally shot. The deceased were identified as Luvo Sokhuphe (32), shot multiple times and Mgcineni Mbalula (29) shot in the head.

The incident took place in a container behind the tavern in Mnandi Street in Joe Slovo.

Police are investigating two cases of murder and one attempted murder. Anyone who can assist in the investigation is asked to contact D/W/O Wayne Du Preez at SAPS Kwadwesi on 082 442 0964. All information is confidential and callers may remain anonymous.

In the second incident, the owner of a liquor store was gunned down outside his store as he was about to open it yesterday morning, 23 October 2021. It is alleged that at about 08:55, an unknown male approached the owner, Johan Meyer (51) and fired multiple shots before running away. The incident took place in front of the store in Sidwell Avenue, Sidwell.

In both incidents, the suspects and motive for the murders are unknown.

Four suspects arrested for alleged murder of a truck driver

Four suspects aged between 22 and 40 were arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning, 23 October 2021, for murder and armed robbery. According to information received, the truck driver and his colleague were sitting inside a truck and counting money on Friday, 22 October 2021, in Zone 8, Mogwase outside Rustenburg when approached by four males; one of them armed.

The driver tried to push back one of the males with a truck door, but he allegedly fired shots. It is alleged that one of the delivery guys ran away while a 43-year-old truck driver was unfortunately shot on his up body and died at the scene. The suspects fled the scene. Following a collaboration between the police and the public, four suspects were arrested shortly after the incident. Furthermore, the firearm that was used during the commission of the crime was recovered. The suspects are all expected to appear in the Mankwe Magistrates’ Court in Mogwase on Monday, 24 October 2021.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, condemned the gruesome murder and instructed the detectives to ensure that the suspects remain in custody. The General also thanked members of the community for teaming up with the police in catching the alleged perpetrators.
