Abrahams to Highlight Government-Industry Drive to Boost Manufacturing

Durban: In a significant push to bolster the partnership between the government and the manufacturing industry, Trade, Industry and Competition Deputy Minister Alexandra Abrahams is set to deliver the keynote address at the KwaZulu-Natal Clothing and Textile Cluster's (KZNCTC) 20th Anniversary Annual General Meeting in Durban next week. This event marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing efforts to enhance the manufacturing sector's role in economic growth and job creation.

According to South African Government News Agency, the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) emphasized that Abrahams' engagement is part of her broader commitment to fostering economic development through a strengthened and competitive manufacturing industry. The department highlighted the necessity of government and industry collaboration to unlock new opportunities for local businesses, fortify value chains, and create employment.

The KZNCTC anniversary will serve as a platform for manufacturers, retailers, industry leaders, and stakeholders to assess achievements over the last two decades and to strategize on expanding the sector's contribution to investment, employment, and economic progress. Abrahams' involvement underscores the manufacturing sector's critical role in advancing the government's agenda for economic growth and job creation.

The event is scheduled to be held next Wednesday at the Toyota Wessels Institute of Manufacturing Studies in Kloof. Key themes in Abrahams' address will include enhancing local economic development through competitive manufacturing, supporting business growth, and boosting investment and export opportunities. Additionally, she will focus on improving productivity, innovation, and competitiveness sector-wide.

The KZNCTC operates as an industry-led public-private partnership with the aim of enhancing the competitiveness, sustainability, and resilience of the clothing, textile, footwear, and leather manufacturing sectors in KwaZulu-Natal. Over the past 20 years, the cluster has collaborated with retailers, manufacturers, small businesses, and public sector partners to facilitate productivity improvements, skills development, supplier growth, and industry collaboration.
