Pretoria: National Treasury has announced an extension to the public comment period for the draft General Public Procurement Regulations, 2026, allowing feedback until 15 July 2026. This follows the publication of the draft regulations in Government Gazette Number 54528 on 16 April 2026, as per section 63(1) of the Public Procurement Act, 2024 (Act No. 28 of 2024).
According to South African Government News Agency, the initial deadline for comments was set for 60 days after publication. However, due to requests for more time and the complexities associated with the regulations, the Minister of Finance decided to extend the period by an additional 30 days. This extension aims to provide the public with sufficient opportunity to review and contribute to the draft regulations.
The regulations are intended to implement the Public Procurement Act, 2024, which was assented to by President Cyril Ramaphosa on 18 July 2024 and published shortly after. The Act seeks to establish a unified framework for regulating public procurement processes.
The Treasury's statement this week confirmed the new deadline for submissions as 15 July 2026. Interested parties can access the draft regulations and notices on the National Treasury's website. Comments should be sent to [email protected].
